When it comes to dressing for San Francisco there are a few essential pieces that everyone should own. Because this is a city with two seasons, 64 degrees and Indian Summer, one of those essentials is the trench coat. In the winter, this workhorse layers perfectly over whisper thin sweaters and scarves. In the "summer" they become an essential layer to make gauzy summer dresses SF weather appropriate.

This Banana Republic Classic Trench is perfect. The sleeves are nice and long. The collar is long enough to turn up against the cold, stiff enough to stay crisp. And those epaulets are just dreamy. Toss on some skinnies (these are my current favorite pull on jeggings from Old Navy) and if you are feeling fancy a vintage fur stole/aviators and a simple outfit becomes effortless chic. Or as my man proclaimed, "Dope." (Sneakers by Forever 21 - similar here)
