Sausilito is an 8 minute ride from my home in the Marina district of San Francisco, if there's no traffic. Not just any drive, but a scenic jaunt across the Golden Gate Bridge. Despite the short distance the temperature is always several degrees warmer, making it an ideal location for an escape.
Even the parking lots in Sausalito are scenic - bordering idyllic houseboats and lawn studded marinas, all with stunning views of the bay and the city of San Francisco beyond.
On this clear day we parked and walked to the lively Bar Bocce, which features outdoor dining, a bocce court and a small beach where the restaurant will deliver their menu of delicious pizza's and salads as far as the "seawall" so that you can make your own picnic.
Afterwards we walked down the main drag, stopping for some delicious ice cream and sorbet before finding a spot in one of those pristine sea wall lawns to lie in the sun. All in all, the perfect afternoon adventure that felt like a huge escape, without all the planning or logisitics...
